About Galicia

We live in a region of Spain called Galicia, known for its seafood and beautiful Atlantic landscapes. Galicia's capital is Santiago de Compostela, one of Europe's most important Christian pilgrimage destinations for over a thousand years, and has its own distinct culture and language (Galician).

Want to win major brownie points with the locals?! Instead of paella, order pulpo á feira (Galician-style octopus) or an empanada. Instead of looking for a flamenco show, try to catch a foliada (a traditional Galician music and dance gathering featuring bagpipes and tambourines). And if you learn to say "thank you" in Galician, graciñas (pronounced gra-THEE-nyas), it will go a very long way!

Our Local Recommendations

To help you experience the absolute best of the region, we've put together a custom Google Map pinned with our favorite spots. It is packed with our top recommendations for where to eat and drink in Santiago, what to see around the city, as well as some day trip suggestions!

Getting Here

Geographically, Galicia is closer to Porto, Portugal, than to Madrid or Barcelona, though it's very well connected. There are direct flights from cities like London and Paris, as well as frequent 1-1.5 hour flights from Madrid and Barcelona, making it easy to reach whether you're traveling from Europe or the U.S. We can't wait to share it with you!

We suggest traveling into one of the following cities:

Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ)

The closest and easiest major airport to where we live. From the airport you can reach Santiago by taxi or rental car, and there is also a convenient local bus to the city center every 30 minutes that costs €1 each way (only cash payment on board).

Santiago de Compostela – Daniel Castelao Train Station

Located in the heart of the city. Best option if traveling by train from Madrid (approximately 3.5 hours).

Vigo

Vigo Airport (VGO)

A smaller airport with fewer international flights, but the closest to the wedding location. Vigo is about 15 minutes by car from the venue and approximately one hour by car or train from Santiago de Compostela.

Porto

Porto Airport (OPO)

Often the best option for international flights. Porto Airport is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by car from the wedding venue and 2.5 by car or 3.5 by bus to Santiago de Compostela.
